Int the world of social media, change happens and it can happen fast.
Just recently, LinkedIn announced two significant changes to its application that have serious consequences for the way some people use it.
First, LinkedIn members now only 15 member to member messages for all their groups!
Many people used to use groups as a way to meet other people whom they didn’t have connections with.
The other significant change was to eliminate the ability to search your connections’s connections.
While noted LinkedIn expert, Brynne Tillman, and her team have done a great job of developing a workaround in a hurry, it’s still a workaround and less than what we had before.
Not to be all doom and gloom, Twitter recently announced that its Direct Message (DM) feature will increase the character length from 140 characters to 10,000 in July 2015!
This is great news especially for customer service organizations that have been using Twitter to support their clients.
So, change is sometimes a good thing!
My message today is not have undue dependence on one particular feature in a tool or a vendor.
Always have a Plan B!
I’ll repeat with emphasis:
Always have a Plan B!
One way to do this is make sure that you’re using multiple tools and understand their differences.
Yes, as I’ve said before, start with one tool but don’t stop there!
As you develop your social media program always think about possible redundancies.
Strive to stay current with what’s happening with your social media tools.
Participate in forums, read blogs, and talk to folks like me!
Remember only you can stay on top of your organization’s social media!
That’s it for now!
In the meantime, thank you for following and reading my blog!
