Recent conversations with small business clients are convincing me that many small businesses aren’t really approaching social media in a programmatic way.
They seem to be doing either nothing or very little.
There a few key signs of trouble.
Incomplete social media profiles are always a good sign of dabbling.
Not exactly sure what social media channels they’re using is another good one. (Often accompanied by the question, if my employees are doing something with my company name is it mine?)
My personal favorite is, “Yeah, we were doing something but then we forgot the passwords!”
(And people wonder why I went into this business!)
There’s that old saying from Lewis Carroll. “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.”
Very apt for the modern social media world!
In today’s competitive markets, you have to have a social media strategy!
Doing anything is not necessarily better than doing nothing if you don’t have a plan.
Early adopters always have the advantage!
(Don’t listen to those guys who say you can always tell the early settlers because they have arrows in their backs. They watched too many movies as kids!)
What are you waiting for?
What should you be doing?
Develop a social media program to start your strategy!
Starting small is OK!
Ask others for help!
Go to your industry group.
Check out online forums.
Or, come see folks like myself!
A little, planned effort can go a long way towards helping you and your business!
That’s it for now!
