You’ve put all your time and energy into a brand new LinkedIn profile for yourself!
You have a world class headline, summary, and experience.
Whether by yourself or with help, you have a complete and current profile which is far superior to your competitors.
But, there’s something bothering you.
You don’t know what to do with your profile!
The world’s not exactly beating a path to your door because of your new profile.
New connections aren’t happening in any greater numbers than before.
Why is this happening?
Did you do something wrong?
Did you waste your time and energy, and maybe your money too?
Is there something else to do?
Well, if you guesses the last item then you’re correct!
There is always something more to do in social media!
For the purposes of this article, I’ll focus exclusively on what should be done in LinkedIn.
First, you have to proactively develop new, relevant connections on LinkedIn.
These are influencers in your market segment, subject matter experts (SME), and potential employers or clients.
Next, you have to publish content.
This is your own original work published in status updates, LinkedIn Publisher, and SlideShare.
Publishing content also involves resharing and commenting on the content of others.
You’re also participating in the conversation going on in the community around you.
Finally, you need to participate in LinkedIn Groups.
I know there has been a lot of discussion lately about whether these are still effective but I’m not about to give up on them yet.
Engaging and participating in Groups is still recommended to raise your presence and make new connections.
A LinkedIn profile, no matter how well written, does nothing by itself.
Don’t wait until you either need a job or new clients to start interacting and participating with your LinkedIn community. Relationships take time to develop and nuture!
Remember to always be engaged with your LinkedIn community!
In future articles I’ll discuss these approaches in more depth.
If you need help then don’t be shy about asking for it!
I’m always willing to help you out with your social media program!
That’s it for now!
