Whom Are Your Influencers on Social Media?

Ever wonder if you’re all alone on social media and why that is?

Ever wonder why your competitors get recognized by the movers and shakers on social media while you’re not?

Well, if you’ve ever had these feelings on social media (News flash, we all do at one time or another!) then come along with me and let’s talk about it!

Movers and shakers on social media are its influencers.

They are subject matter experts (SME) in their areas of expertise.

They’re the ones who are followed by everyone and their content is shared by all.

Their weighing in on someone’s social media can boost the lucky person’s metrics and bestow an aura of legitimacy upon them.

Consultants, authors, journalists, and book/product reviewers are just a few examples of online influencers.

Get the idea?

The characteristics of influencers on social media are the following:

  1. They post great content regularly
  2. They engage with others in a thoughtful, meaningful way
  3. They have useful social media profiles and blogs
  4. They’re proactive
  5. Invariably, they have a social media plan and stick to it
  6. They’ve been at it a long time and put a lot of effort into it
  7. OK, and did I mention that they’re very, very good at what they do?

Now, how do you attract the attention of the social media influencers in your particular discipline?

There’s that old saying, ‘If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it’s a duck!’

Become the role that you aspire too among social media influencers!

(You do want to become one yourself don’t you?)

See those characteristics above that I listed?

There’s your starting point!

Engage with the social media influencers in your discipline.

Share their content, comment on it, and contribute to their conversations.

Earn your way into their company and attract their attention while you’re at it.

Like anything else in life, if it’s worth doing then it’s worth doing right.

Attracting the attention of social media influencers is no different.

Reputations have to be earned.

And, remember they can be lost even more easily!

That’s it for now!
