Short answer – Yes!
For those of you wondering why you’d want to reinvent yourself here’re a few good reasons:
- Your current profession or trade has gone away
- Your current, long term career prospects are non-existent to bleak at best
- You’re unhappy with what you’re doing and need a change of scenery.
OK, those are a few reasons and there can be many more depending on one’s circumstances.
Now, let’s talk about how LinkedIn can help you reinvent yourself!
First, there’s your transition.
Unless of course, you’re one of the fortunate few, who after making this decision, simply moves onto to your next role without skipping a beat.
In which case, kudos to you and please remember to update your LinkedIn profile on your way.
For the rest of us, as the old adage goes, “Wishin’ don’t make it so!”
In other words, we’re going to have to work at reinventing ourselves.
Let’s get into the details!
Next, begin to revise your LinkedIn profile to showcase yourself as being suitable for your new role.
Either highlight skills and experiences that you haven’t before or begin to acquire those skills and experiences. (How to do this is beyond the scope of this article, but if you send me an email at the address below with any questions then I’d be happy to answer them for you.)
Start connecting with individuals on LinkedIn who are in your targeted profession, industry, and company.
Don’t forget to personalize your message as to why you’re reaching out!
In today’s crazy job market, people are willing to help if they can.
(Meanwhile, don’t forget to network in real time!)
Engage with relevant individuals on LinkedIn by liking and commenting on their content in a value added manner.
Create your own relevant content and share that of others.
Update your interests and looking for sections if appropriate.
Keep at it!
Reinventing yourself is not easy!
I know, I’ve done it a few times myself without the benefit of LinkedIn.
And never lose heart, it can be done!
That’s it for now!
Also, never forget to reach out to either ask questions or to ask for help from someone like myself!
