I’ve blogged before about looking at how your competitors are using social media.
This time, I’d like to step back and look at what your industry is doing as a whole on social media.
Let’s get started!
First, you need to think about the entire eco-system!
It’s just about your competitors. See what your industry’s influencers, subject matter experts (SME), and thought leaders are doing.
You have to look at the entire supply chain in your industry.
Where does it start? Who are its components? (For example, publishing firms for writers)
Where does it end?
With your customers of course!
But, where are they individually or as groups?
What are they doing?
What other social media tools or social media-like tools are they using which you may not be familiar with?
Next, you’ve figured out who the players are and what the game is in social media in your industry, but what do you do about it?
This part is pretty straight forward compared to the last one!
First, you engage with them.
Then you create content and share their content.
You grow your community.
And, always, you listen and learn what are the issues and needs of your community!
There is no one size fits all with social media.
Each industry is unique unto itself and they’re all in a constant state of change.
Study your industry closely and it’ll pay off for you!
Also, never forget to reach out to either ask questions or to ask for help from someone like myself!
