What Are You Afraid of with Social Media?

OK, come on admit it!

Some of you are afraid of social media!

There’s no shame here, we’re all afraid of something.

(No, I won’t tell you what I’m afraid of. Just every night, while you say your prayers, pray that you don’t meet it.)

It’s said that the only way to conquer a fear is to face it head on.

So, let’s talk about facing your fear of social media head on!

There are several types of fear where social media is concerned.

First, there is fear of the unknown.

What is it and what what will it do to me?

It’s all new.

Next, there is fear of failure.

What if I go onto social media and everyone hates me?

Or, worse yet, they all ignore me.

Sounds a lot like high school doesn’t it?

Finally, there’s the fear of revealing ourselves to others.

They’re going to know all about me?

But, they’re all strangers!

Besides, I’m not that interesting.

You may have a few other fears yourself but you get the idea.

I’m neither going to tear these fears apart one by one nor tell you that your fears are baseless. (Hope I don’t lose anyone with that last remark.)

What I will tell you is this.

You’ve all faced these fears countless times before in your lives at one time or another and you got through them.

People get hit by cars everyday crossing the street but you still cross the street.

Why?

Saying home alone gets really, really boring after a while. (Besides, you’ll run out of groceries eventually.)

How?

You look both ways before you cross the street and you make sure that you’re not under the influence of anything while you’re at it.

Like anything else in life, when we deal with social media we need to learn its rules, history, and culture.

We make mistakes but we persevere.

We learn to be careful.

But, most of all, we get on with our lives and enjoy ourselves.

So, if you’re sitting there afraid of social media then don’t be.

Just look it straight in the eye and deal with it.

Trust me, you’ll be glad that you did!

That’s it for now!
