Mistakes, we all make them!
If you don’t then you’re either not human or lying.
Stuff happens.
Especially in a fast, ever changing medium like social media, mistakes are bound to happen.
Let’s talk about this!
The Types of Mistakes
For me there are three types of mistakes that you canmake on social media. In increasing order of severity, these are:
- Trivial
- Minor
- Major
Trivial mistakes are small, embarrassing, and easily fixed without causing too much lasting damage.
A good example is spelling your name incorrectly on an otherwise fairly decent LinkedIn profile.
(I realize that I’m going to get a lot of blowback from LinkedIn purists with that last statement.)
But, once you correct the issue, you move on and it’s quickly forgotten.
Minor mistakes are more substantial in nature than trivial and can have a lasting negative impact on your brand if not found and quickly addressed.
Examples are incomplete profiles on your social media channels or failing to engage sufficiently with your communities.
Major mistakes, as far as I’m concerned there’s only one major mistake involving social media and that’s not being on social media at all!
Again, others may disagree with me, but if you’re not on social media then you’re doing irreparable harm to your brand whether you’re self-employed or a career professional.
We all make mistakes.
It’s what makes us interesting.
The trick is not making ones that are too detrimental to you.
IMHO Not being on social media is the biggest mistake that you can make.
Fortunately, there’s an easy fix to that!
That’s it for now!
