No!
I got this question all the time before the emergency and I give the same answer now as I did then, it’s never too late to start your social media program!
Of course, it would have been better if you had started earlier, but that’s water under the bridge now.
The world is falling all over itself to get online as it’s being locked down.
There are still opportunities, as well as challenges, because of the current situation as the rush continues.
Let’s talk about that!
No one knows how long this pandemic will last.
If history is any judge then we have a ways to go yet.
So, my first recommendation is to plan for the long haul.
Whatever you do now with social media, you’ll be able to use going forward after this is all over.
Next, think about why you’re on social media?
Are you there for customer service, revenue generation, staying in contact with your clients and prospects, why?
Then who are you trying to reach and how are you going to do that outreach?
Now, for the bad news!
(Somebody has to tell you and it may as well be me!)
There are no silver bullets with social media.
Just because the world’s going to Hell in a hand basket doesn’t mean that the immutable Laws of the Universe, like marketing and physics, have been suspended.
They haven’t.
Engagement and content are still the roads to success on social media.
Oh, and don’t think by jumping in and spending a lot of money in a hurry that you’re going to make a big splash.
The odds are against you.
Start with the free and near free tools before you begin to spend real money.
Trust me, you’ll thank me for this later.
Finally, stay at it!
Success on social media requires you to be disciplined and scheduled.
One tweet a day isn’t going to do anything for you.
Irrelevant content won’t help you.
How do you want to look when clients and prospects find you on social media?
They’re not there for the cute kitten pictures, believe me.
So, it’s never too late to get started with your social media program.
Just be smart about it!
That’s it for now!
